These Black Balsam Knob engagement photos turned out even better than I hoped for when the threat of rain almost had us rescheduling. Let me tell you, this isn’t the first time that’s happened lately, it seems like the skies know when I’m trying to take photos, but taking the chance and going anyway paid off ten fold! Unless it’s storming like crazy outside I won’t let a few raindrop stop us.
This spot is very popular but on an overcast day during the week it was peaceful instead of crowded and that meant we had plenty of space to ourselves and options for overlooks. It was my first visit there and it didn’t disappoint with such amazing views, more like the sound of music than something you’d see in North Carolina. The landscape is like a whole other world once you reach the top and the perfect backdrop for this amazing couple who were game for anything and so easy to work with!
The hike up is relatively short, but there’s a few rocky sections here and there. You wander through a pretty forest area (forest pics anyone? Can’t turn that down) before it begins to open up to some beautiful green balds. You won’t find any trees near the top and that’s part of what makes it so wonderful and the views so easy. It’s a lovely spot for an engagement session or elopement, easy to get to along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville and offers so many different photo locations packed into the same area.
I can’t wait to go back there again and capture more love stories in the mountains. Sometimes overcast turns out to be a blessing in disguise and offers fabulous moody photos. We all love a sunset but days like these really offer a chance for something unique.
If you’re interested in eloping or having your own Black Balsam Knob engagement photos taking during a fun session let’s chat and discuss capturing your love the way it’s meant to be seen.
